Past Seminars
Topic: Global Warm and Climate Change: Quo Vadis?
Presenter: Dr. T. K. Yesufu
Date: 17 March, 2010
Abstract: It was predicted that there will be considerably more warming in the 21st century, depending on the level of future greenhouse gas emissions. Further warming of 2.4 to 6.4 Celsius degrees (4.3 to 11.5 Fahrenheit degrees) was predicted to occur by the year 2100. International cooperation and immediate action were called upon to counteract this problem, since a huge population of human beings is at risk.
Topic: Strategies for Accidents Prevention on Ife/Ibadan Highway and Roads within Ile-Ife and its environs.
Presenter: Mrs. E. F. Okotie
Date: 31 March, 2010
Abstract: The seminar provided information on the major causes of accidents on Nigerian roads, which will enhance the development of effective strategies that can be used to reduce the increasing road accident trend and its attendant effects. It also provides new insights on the need for the reviewing and enforcing of the existing government road safety regulations. The seminar was a clarion call for the development of a National Road Safety Action Plan with strong institutional support.
Topic: Design, Construction and Testing of a Solar Irradiance Sensor
Presenter: Mr. N. D. Onyeuwaoma
Date: 14 March, 2010
Abstract: A solar irradiance sensor was designed and tested alongside the ARONET Sunphotometre at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. The instrument was able to measure the cloud cover and the amount of solar irradiance falling on the earth. Further work is still being done on the system to ensure its perfection
Topic: Data Mining: A Neural Network Approach for Information Extraction.
Presenter: Mr. ATIJOSAN Abimbola Oyewole
Date: May 12, 2010
Abstract: This study aims at enhancing the extraction of information from available data by making use of a data mining technique called Artificial Neural Network (ANN). In this presentation we considered the use of ANN in Business ( cash forecating in automated eller maching (ATM)) and Medicine (presumtive diagnosis of two diseases if the urinary system).
Limitations and challenges encountered with the use of ANN will be identified. future applications of ANN will be highlighted especially in the areas of agriculture, finance, health, security and digital signal processing.
